Join UXPA Toronto as we discuss the Future of UX with our panel of professionals, Tara O'Doherty, Karel Vredenburg, Eiko Kawano, Andrew Chak and Scott MacGregor.

With technology evolving at such a rapid pace, the one constant will be how we design with the user in mind. Positive user experiences are now measured as a key metric to success, but as the future of technology changes, how can we ensure that we stay ahead of the curve?

  Eiko has been creating digital experiences since 1998, and recently joined Tribal as the VP of Experience Design. Previously, Eiko was with SapientRazorfish, where she led the User Experience and strategy for the Walmart Canada account, and drove the evolution of Walmart’s digital ecosystem through mobile shopping apps, in-store technologies and online grocery. She established a collaborative design process, a data-driven design practice, and was the Culture Lead for SapientRazorfish’s North region. Eiko has worked with VW, BMO, Four Seasons, the Canadian Tourism Commission, the University of British Columbia, Chrysler and TELUS.
  Karel is Director, IBM Design. He has led the design community worldwide at IBM for much of his career and was a founding member of the IBM Design organization in 2012. He is responsible for IBM Design worldwide client programs and regularly works with senior executive teams at IBM’s most important clients as well as with startup communities. Karel joined IBM in 1988 after having done graduate studies, research, and teaching at the University of Toronto. He introduced User-Centered Design at IBM in 1993 and assumed a company-wide role in 1995. Karel also serves as the head of IBM Studios Canada, is Industry Professor at McMaster University, serves on the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council education committee, blogs at, and hosts a podcast series in iTunes.
  For over 16 years Tara has been creating exceptional customer experiences and product success for leaders like AT&T, Gap Inc., IDEO, Ericsson, Google, and SickKids. Tara’s mission is to deliver outstanding digital products, digital transformations, and digital commerce conversion that not only provide the ‘wow’ effect for the consumer but also surpass brand, engagement, productivity, loyalty, and revenue goals. Tara has been featured in a number of publications and speaks at dozens of conferences a year. She won many prestigious awards, amongst them Cannes Lions, pencils from The One Show, and other design awards; and her work has been featured in People Magazine, Mashable, and on CNN.
  Scott is Experience Director at Huge. For 15 years, Scott has been fiercely passionate about helping companies build empathetic experiences that fight apathy and lead to happy, engaged, loyal customers who can’t help but share the experience with others. Before joining Huge, Scott was a Partner and Design Director at Heist Data + Design. Scott is dedicated to helping customers fall in love with the products, services, experiences and brands they invest their time and money in, while at the same time helping to drive significant business results.
  Andrew is Head of Design at Wattpad where he focuses on making storytelling more captivating, more available, and more inclusive to grow its user base of 60 million monthly users. Andrew is charged with growing designers to obsess over user problems, enabling research to extract unspoken needs, and inspiring new mindsets through design thinking. With a career spanning agency (Klick), corporate (TD, Rogers), and now start-up (Wattpad), Andrew has a unique perspective on how UX can thrive in different environments. Andrew loves being a part of creating experiences that matter is always open to grabbing a coffee with others who share in that joy.
